We’re the Scott family. We’re from Pasadena, California and we just moved to Aqaba, Jordan.

Bret (Papa Bear) got a job teaching film directing at The Red Sea Institute of Cinematic Arts (RSICA), so he and Marjie (Mama Bear) and Abby (Baby Bear) packed up their little house and moved to Aqaba on August 2nd, 2011.

This blog chronicles the Scott family adventures in their new home. It also aims to be a resource for those wanting to learn more about life in the middle east, or at least, life in Jordan.

Enjoy! And thanks for reading.

    • Thanks, you guys! I’m so glad you like the blog. Please check back frequently as I post about once a week. I hope you guys are doing well! We’ll be in GV at Christmas so perhaps we’ll get to see you?

  2. Hi there,
Love the blog and your sense of humor. Coincidentally, we just got back from Aqaba for two nights (our first trip there). All I can say is that I’m extremely envious of you living there after visiting! Aqaba is SOOO beautiful. I could live much more happily that Amman. I suppose I might change my mind when the temperature reaches 120 degrees, but for now, hands down Aqaba wins over Amman.

    • Hi Jen! Thanks for your comment. Indeed a coincidence that you just returned from Aqaba. I agree with you that it’s a beautiful place. I definitely enjoy living so close to the beach. When the temp reaches 120, it’s pretty unbearable but thankfully that’s only for a brief time in the summer. Amman seems nice in many ways, but more hectic and not as picturesque as Aqaba. We’re planning a weekend trip to Amman in February. I look forward to reading more of your blog. Keep writing!

  3. Hello Mrs. Scott!

As I was googling Amman, Jordan, through out my voyage I landed on your blog! I read a few of them, and I must say I love it!

My adventure to Amman will officially start Saturday when I land at 530pm, I am pretty anxious! Visited almost every summer since I was 7. This time around will be on my own.

Keep writing- your definitely going in my bookmarks!

    Take care

    PS – Abby is adorable!

    • Thank you, Naella! I’m so glad you enjoy the blog and thank you for the kind words about Abby. I wish you a great time in Amman! Are you originally from Jordan? We’re staying in the US for the summer but we’ll be back in Amman in September. Thanks again for reading! Enjoy your travels!

  4. Hello Marjie!

I found you blog searching the practical and first hand info about Aqaba and I’m so happy you wrote it. I enjoyed reading and your way of expressing impressions. Too bad you don’t write anymore.
My husband got and accept the job offer in Aqaba and we are moving there from Croatia in one month. I am pregnant (12w now) and this (our first baby) will be born in Jordan. How excited! Or scary :).
Is it possible to get in touch with you for some more info about Tala bay living, and Aqaba health services?

Thank you again for this wonderful reading you gave me.

    Take care!
